When Julian Assange landed in Canberra this week after years in prison, the former army lawyer David McBride felt his spirits lift from his cell.
McBride and his new legal team are preparing his appeal after an ACT supreme court judge sentenced him to a maximum of five years and eight months behind bars in May for stealing secret defence documents about Australia’s involvement in the Afghanistan war and leaking them to the media.
