Queensland police expect to be able to use retested DNA to charge “a lot of cases” if new laws further loosening the double jeopardy principle pass parliament.

The police commissioner, Katarina Carroll, told media on Wednesday that police were working through a backlog of cases as a result of the retesting of tens of thousands of DNA samples.
